10-07-2011 - Final update letter from John Lanigan to customers
October 14, 2011 - The last of BNSF's main line routes impacted by flooding, the Napier subdivision, has been returned to service between Napier, Missouri and Pacific Jct., Iowa.
Proactive Measures:
St. Joseph subdivision - BNSF raised the track east of Rulo, Nebraska and restored and strengthened several bridges to re-open the route between Lincoln and Kansas City.
Devils Lake subdivision - BNSF rebuilt and repaired the track east of Minot near Towner, ND to restore service on this route. Photos of the effort are posted to the Weather Interruptions page under the link labeled 7-13-11 Towner, ND.
Glasgow subdivision - BNSF raised the track a total of 5 feet in order to remain in service. Over 300 cars of ballast and rip rap were used to raise and fortify the track.
Creston subdivision - BNSF raised two mainline tracks up to 8 feet in order to remain in service. Levees have been built to 6 feet above top of rail along both sides of the track and portions of the roadbed have been armored with rip rap (boulder-size rock.) BNSF has filled 160,000 sandbags to be used on the levees if needed.
