TSS Xpress: One of Top 100 IT Projects in 2007

Every year, InfoWorld celebrates 100 information technology (IT) organizations that have made the best use of technology in pursuit of business goals.

BNSF’s Web-based TSS Xpress (the revamped link to the Transportation Support System or TSS) is among the winners this year. A team led by Bonnie Henn-Pritchard, assistant vice president, Technology Services (TS), and Janet Galassi, director, TS, developed TSS Xpress, which reduces more than 3,400 TSS commands to fewer than 100 transportation-focused menu items and offers data filtering, sorting and exporting tools. TSS Xpress is currently being piloted at several locations across the system and will be implemented next year with support from the field and BNSF’s Telecommunications team.

"We were seeking to enhance our ability to track more than 6,000 locomotives, 220,000 freight cars and 40,000 people across more than 50,000 miles of track," says Henn-Pritchard. "TSS Xpress transforms ‘green screen’ text-command applications into Web-based applications, making them much more user friendly."

Congratulations to the TS team for this, the first industry award for TSS Xpress, and for placing BNSF among other IT leaders that "are both inspiration and proof that striking a new path in IT can reap deep organizational rewards," according to InfoWorld.
